Post Surgery Instructions
General instructions after retina surgery.
After surgery
Follow the instruction sheet given to you after surgery.
- Use Prednisolone Acetate 1%, Pred Forte, or Econopred drops as directed: 6 times daily for 1 week, then 4 times daily for 1 week, then 2 times daily for 1 week, then once daily for 1 week, then stop.
- Use Vigamox or another antibiotic drop 4 times daily for 1 week, then stop, or continue until a bandage contact lens is removed if instructed.
- You may use over-the-counter Tylenol for pain, or over-the-counter ibuprofen if you are able to take it.
- Please attend your post-operative appointment scheduled the day after surgery.
- Please follow any positioning instructions given after surgery.
- Do not lift more than 20 pounds or do very heavy work for two weeks.
You may
- Shower from the neck down and use a washcloth for your face. Baby shampoo may help avoid eye rubbing.
- Read or watch TV as long as you maintain head positioning if required.
- Walk briskly, ride a stationary bicycle, and do light housework after one week.
- Wear your green bracelet, if given one, until your gas bubble is gone.
